Mike Shannon is a Canadian DJ whose talents includes many different fields within the electronic music genre. His creativity and versatility shines through in his newest release under the artist name Blue Fields in coproduction with the Japanese guitarist Takeshi Nishimoto and the Turkish singer Fadila. Together they have created a very unique and unconventional ambient and jazzy album which definitely owns up to it’s album name Ghost Story. This is a musical vision which easily wriggles free of the usual genre signifiers and pays grand dividends to those with the good sense to get nice and close to the speakers. Once again Kenton Slash Demon produced a track which feels like a journey out of this world! “Daemon” is the name of the track and it’s got the typical KSD sound, that I personally find sublime! Vocals are supplied by Nikolaj Vonsild from fellows When Saints Go Machine and Jon Philpot (Bear in Heaven).
The spacy video is created in the quest for creating classic computer effects without the computer. An abstract space opera about loadscreens based on Strings and nails.

I Won’t Let Go by Monarchy
This London-based electropop duo Monarchy consists of Ra Khahn and Andrew “Friendly” Kornweibel, who first started to make music together in 2008 as Milke. Here they released the hit, “Love Get Out Of My Way”.
Towards the end of 2009, the duo recorded a new song that was so different from their previous work that they decided to release it under a new name. This is how Monarchy was born! “Gold In The Fire” came out on Neon Gold as a double A-side single with “Black The Colour Of My Heart” on February 1st 2010.
Much anticipated and already once postponed debut album, the boys recently unveiled a new single “I Won’t Let Go” featuring Rokhsan.
It’s a typical Monarchy synth pop tune with catchy vocals and deliciously retro synths. It will be released on April 11 via Moda Music with remixes by Bag Raiders, Mustang and Sam Tiba.

UK rapper Example and dubstep home boy Skream debuted with this track in January this year at the Zane Lowe’s Show on BBC 1 Radio.
Its resemblance with Magnetic Man’s “Getting Nowhere” is interesting and seem to indicate a new productions of mainstream dupstep/EDM-tracks.

BetaTraxX aka Tim Nelson is one of the leading producers of the L.A. electronic dance music scene. He is obviously very influenced by the dubstep genre and cultivating it in a more mainstream feel and it produces a very boosting and energetic feel.
I love the fusion of classical strings and hardcore bass in “Relic” and “Listen To The Rythm Flow Pt. 2″. If you like this, you could also check out Atlas Plug and the track “Truth be known”, which resembles in the style and energy.

The two dubstep kings Benga and Skream came together with their mentor and UK – garage producer Artwork back in 2008 – Magnetic Man is an extreme super constellation of dubstep, raving techno, dance and very suitable for a live and energetic performance. This collaboration with John Legend, I believe to be very innovative and refreshing! They certainly pull it off – Plus the video is amazing!

The first thing that struck me about your music, and especially your track Ripple from Expressions, is that it is so emotionally charged. I was personally very moved! It’s got classical tendencies? Can you tell us how you are able to master this so skilfully?
When I’m not working on music, I spend most of my time listening to modern classical / electronica crossover. So things like Olafur Arnalds, Max Richter, Helios, Jon Hopkins and Ben Frost. As for how to “master” this in my own music, I’m not sure if I’ve really done that yet, I’m never satisfied with my output, it’s a constant learning process. As for the technique, I have no classical training and don’t apply music theory; the melodic elements are all just done by feel.

How did you begin your interest in music, and what made you go in this particular direction?
I think we all carry an innate interest in music as a result of our biology – at a basic level, our tendency to want to find patterns in things, music being patterns in sound. But I guess you want to know why I went fully down the slippery slope of music. This was because I really enjoyed playing it, and later, making it, and I was engrossed enough to spend the obscene amount of hours required to make some headway.

Could you tell us about the videos that Whiskas Fx has made for you and how much influence you’ve had?
The videos have mainly been made for tracks which already had well defined concepts. By this I mean, that I presented with the tracks, ideas I found interesting and inspiring when making the music, as something to re-inforce the message of the music, in order to present a more complete listening experience, as well as to make each package more interesting as a whole. Andrew Brewer (WhiskasFx) took these concepts and developed them further in his own way, before we would discuss and pin down the ideas into exactly what we wanted. The result is a fusion staying true to the original music and concepts, but each video primarily Andrew’s own creation.

I read somewhere that when you began producing your own tracks back in 2006, you moved towards a “less-is-more” kind of approach to music. Can you tell us a bit more about this change from one thing to another?
I started off making breaks and electro, and I guess moving into more of a techno theme automatically pushed things a bit more minimal, which was then reinforced further when I started working with Traum. It all happened very naturally though, there was never a conscious decision to change styles or to start making things in any particular way. It’s the same now, my music is always moving into something new, the difficulty arises when you go too far to bring your audience with you. For example, I’m doing a lot more ambient/modern classical and electronica tracks now, which I’m guessing my album, when it eventually materialises, will be primarily made up of. Hopefully the reduction in techno tracks won’t ruin me!

Have you experienced other significant changes in your approach to music in general?
Too many deadlines sometimes means I don’t have enough time to experiment properly, which often means tracks can come out a bit stale. It’s a difficult one these days, with the amount of music you need to release to make music a viable occupation. Some people resort to track templates whereby they can release lots of slight variations of the same thing. I start everything from scratch every time, but still sometimes rely on tried and tested techniques and synths to achieve my aims. Ideally I would have enough time to experiment for a couple of weeks on every piece, which is what I would have done when I first started out, but these days that can sometimes be difficult.

Beyond your music career you are also studying science. Can you tell us about how these two sides of your life coexist?
I was doing science research up until about a year and half ago, at which point my funding ran out. I was already doing music a lot by then, and decided to give it a go properly. Not I haven’t got any time for science unfortunately, but I’m pleased to still have the freedom to be doing my own projects. So in short, those two sides of my life don’t coexist properly, it seems that in order to make a self-driven business work, you need to put in pretty much 100%.

What do you believe to be the best circumstances for you to make a great track?
Artistic freedom. When I’m told by a label to make something without constraints, or when I set myself that task, it generally results in the pieces of music that I’m most pleased with.

Today you have many software options when creating music. What is your choice of weapon, Ableton. Logic, Cubase, or?
I use Ableton Live.

What was the first software tool that helped you get the sound you have now?
Predatohm has featured pretty consistently over the years. And Operator.

If you were to collaborate with any artist, who would be the most exciting?
Björk would be nice, would love to get my filthy hands on those vocals!

Originally released in 1994, Bob Holroyd’s effervescent, career-defining anthem ‘African Drug’ was included on both Francois K’s Essential Mix and Coldcut’s Journeys By DJ: Coldcut – 70 Minutes Of Madness. So when Bob walked through our shop’s doors one day, we couldn’t resist asking to license the track and give it a new lease of life with two breathtaking remixes.And that’s exactly what we did.

The first remix comes from the consistently trailblazing Four Tet. Clocking in at just under 12 minutes, there’s only one word to describe it – epic. Using the African samples of the original, Four Tet builds a complex, glockenspiel-esque melody that slowly morphs into a feast of hypnotic percussion, pulsating sub- bass and dizzying, psychedelic FX. Following a brief remission around the halfway mark, the melody returns, unspooling into a climactic freak-out that’s simply classic Four Tet.

On the flipside we have rising star of T.Williams – who also gave us the first Local Action release – re- tooling ‘African Drug’ for more leftfield dancefloors. An absorbing, off-kilter percussive intro gradually gives way to a heavy yet streamlined 4/4 groove. Ultra-modern but mindful of the source material’s timeless appeal, this is a raw, powerful version with ‘secret weapon’ written all over it.

There are two digital bonus tracks for anyone who prefers a download to a nice piece of wax: a second T.Williams remix that’s more wild and wired than the vinyl cut, plus the original mix of “African Drug’, still spellbinding sixteen years after it was made.

Moderat are Modeselektor and Apparat.
Moderat’s formation began back in 2002 when Sascha Ring (aka Apparat) and
Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary (aka Modeselektor) recorded an EP for the
record label BPitch Control. The making of this release was incredibly exhausting for
the three of them, and at the last minute they renamed the EP “Auf Kosten der
Gesundheit” (which translates to “At The Cost Of Health”). When it came time to begin
working on an album, Moderat suddenly broke up.
A short time later both Modeselektor and Apparat simultaneously worked on their own
full-length albums — Modeselektor’s debut, Hello Mom!, and Apparat’s collaboration
with Ellen Allien, Orchestra of Bubbles. Each went on to become successful releases
and were followed by two career-defining albums for the individual acts. Additionally,
since their debut releases, both acts have performed over 1,000 shows at nearly every
point of the globe.
Modeselektor’s sophomore album in 2007, Happy Birthday!, set a milestone in
German music history including musicians such as Puppetmastaz, Maximo Park and
Thom Yorke. Amongst a slew of remixes for the likes of Thom Yorke and Björk,
Modeslektor also went on to tour with Radiohead across Japan in 2008.
Apparat, on the other hand, moved forward with his album Walls in 2007, taking a
musical path that was more band-oriented and kept him on tour for several years
running.
It was a twist of fate that brought about Modeselektor and Apparat’s reunion in the
spring of 2008. Szary and Bronsert, both proud fathers, were on their way to the
“Stadtbad Mitte” (Berlin-Mitte City Pool) with their children for their regular Monday
swimming lessons when they ran into Ring, a devout bachelor who happened to be
accompanied by several dubious females. After a battering of verbal abuse, the three
gentlemen quickly made peace and decided to get back to work on their collaborative
album post haste. Thus, Moderat was reformed.
In recording Moderat’s self-titled album, the three men began by renting studio space
at the legendary Berlin Hansa Studios (where Bowie recorded Heroes) in order to
record the album in analog with the help of the studio’s vintage tube technology and
an old EMI console from 1972, restored especially for Moderat. American software
designer, Joshua Kit Clayton, was hired to program a superb reverb algorithm specifically
for the recording process of this album. This exquisite sound design is one of the
reasons why the promotional copies can be listened to only in mono. Finished copies
will, of course, be in full stereo.
Additionally, during the first phases of recording the Moderat album, Szary and Bronsert
bought an EMT Model 140 Plate Reverb on an Internet auction and had to travel to
Los Angeles to pick it up. While there, they met the Californian rapper Busdriver and
the groundwork for “BeatsWaySick” was laid. Moderat continued to work on this with
Busdriver from their respective continents. Unfortunately due to legal issues at the
time of manufacturing, this track will be released as an exclusive download in the
near future.

Back in the studio, the Berlin vocalist Dellé (aka Eased) from leading German act
Seeed found himself in Moderat’s studio room while on a quest to find a bottle opener.
There on the spot, the three gents of Moderat finally waved good-bye to the concept
of a mere instrumental album and said hello to vocal recordings and the song “Sick
With It”. Coincidentally, they found older vocal recordings of Paul St. Hilaire that
had been recorded by Szary and Bronsert way back on low-noise 1/4″ analog tape.
Those recordings are what led to “Slow Match”. All this encouraged Szary and Bronsert
to convince Ring it was time for him to contribute vocals, which can be heard on
“Rusty Nails” and “Out Of Sight”.
The self-titled album Moderat will also be available as a Deluxe Version, including a
DVD produced by the Berlin based artist collective Pfadfinderei. The DVD will feature
music videos and more exclusive content. Pfadfinderei will also contribute visuals to
all Moderat live shows.

The next OstGut Ton is coming from Luke Slater. The Brit released his first record exactly 20 years ago and has been working as an ambitious artist under numerous pseudonyms producing a broad range of electronic music ever since. Be it tough detroit techno, obscure electronica, ambient, or conceptual electro – Slater has definitely left his stamp on the last two decades as a DJ and a producer.

After contributing a gorgeous ambient piece as The 7th Plain to our Ballet cd „Shut Up And Dance! Updated“, Luke now is returning to OstGut Ton under his legendary techno pseudonym as Planetary Assault Systems. The „Temporary Suspension“ EP is a taster for his forthcoming, eponymously titled album on OstGut Ton. “Planetary has always been about going forward, music and mind states working together, pushing movements and alpha waves on the dancefloor“ says Slater.

With this two-tracker he shows how Techno with a healthy dose of toughness should be done in 2009. Both „Temporary Suspension“ and „Mark Me“ are uncompromising DJ tools for the peaktime transporting the PAS spirit into the present.

It has been three years since techno doyen Mark Broom released the synth drenched
techno-firework “Twenty Nine”, which transformed every club’s peak time into a
roller coaster of euphoria. A lot has happened since then. So much that Mark Broom
decided to do an update of his above-mentioned original classic for BPitch’s sub label
Memo along with another remixer, Mihalis Safras.
A:Twenty Nine (Brooms 09 Mix)
Broom’s own “09 Mix” disposes of all of the ‘stomping’ qualities of the original,
embedding it instead with a longing synthline and new vocals on a finely-linked twisted
tom-groove. “Say you want me, Say you need me! Say you love me!” it instructs in
a fragile voice filled with expectation, while the synths move into another lament.
Eyes shut, then comes the bass drum…all good!
B: Twenty Nine (Mihalis Safras Remix)
On the flip side it is a bit more straight-forward but just as dark. Mihalis Safras
allows the bassline to properly simmer, from which the vocals are the only scraps
remaining in a swirling sea of white noise. And then, once again, comes the return
of the synthline that makes your neck hair stand on end. A minimal techno trip of the
highest class.

Exercise One: DJs know them as crafters of cracking tracks on wax. Clubbers around the world know them as a live act that hurtles like a runaway train. Now, prepare to meet another side of the Berlin-based duo. In Cars We Rust is their debut album, and it presents the most complete picture of Exercise One’s world to date. The dancefloor stormers are still there, and the record’s flow is guided by the same spirit of improvisation that drives their live sets. But the clubbier material is rounded out by sounds we’ve never heard from Exercise One before: gorgeous, enveloping ambient tracks; soundtrack-ready synthesizer ballads; even a kind of retro-futurist electro-pop. Best of all, it all hangs together with ease.

Marco Freivogel and Ingo Gansera are the mad mechanics (albeit with a sensitive side) behind the humming, pulsing Exercise One machine, and In Cars We Rust is a testament to the distance they’ve traveled since the two began making music together five years ago. During that time they’ve released singles for Mobilee, Num, Exone and Exercise One’s own Lan Muzic imprint, but more importantly they’ve spent the time perfecting their technique. Whether performing onstage or practicing and recording, music-making is a fundamentally live endeavor for Exercise One. It happens in real time, the fortuitous result of painstaking preparation, communication and the willingness to go where the music leads them. Produced and finessed over many months, In Cars We Rust is the studio product of their hands-on approach, as passages of spontaneous creation are edited, collaged and remixed into a strikingly varied, startlingly cohesive whole.

“Circeo” comes on like dawn in August, with a rustle of percussion and muted horns giving way to slowly unfurling chords and gentle electro-acoustic chatter—featuring Seth Josel on guitar, it’s a four-plus minute ambient palate-cleanser to prep you for the deep-listening experience to follow. The beats begin on “1994,” which eases out of the intro with shimmering keys and a shimmying beat, nearly dissolving into bubbly echoes of Steve Reich before cruising to a close with a dry, purposeful pulse. “It Is Happening Again” turns things up a notch with home-hewn breaks and a monter bass line courtesy Lan Muzic’s Jacopo Carreras. Throbbing and acidic, it’s the perfect snapshot of Exercise One as their needles veer into the red. They cool off with “Trapdoor”: another live favorite, this taut, undulating spiral of metallic percussion and greased oscillators rides the line between cool-down and come-up—a reminder that the best minimal techno is a question of control.

Low-slung funk is the order of the day on “The Drunken Tinman,” skipping dry drum machines across a sludge-pool of charred, muddied bass; the dubby chords and queasy leads above are nothing short of narcotic. After that, “Good Kid” sounds like waking up from a fever dream, cinematic strings streaking light across the soundfield as a drunken piano line goes stumbling across the keys; after two nearly beatless minutes, the drums arrive to escort the song to its closing glory. Slow and beautiful, it’s a mixtape no-brainer. They stay with the melancholic vibe with “No News Today”; featuring Argenis Brito’s distinctive vocals, the song is the perfect fusion of electronic production and a classic pop sensibility. “Sleeper” returns to the land of smoke and strobes; lush chords flutter at the edges of a tunnel carved by diamond-tipped drums and spiraling oscillators. It’s a preparation for the full-bore onslaught of “What You Say,” a lean and mean percussive groover that won’t take “no” for an answer.

Every party has to end eventually; fortunately, Exercise One know how to let us down gently. “Don’t Slip” glides into a slinkier groove, slowing the tempo and losing itself in a field of freaky bleeps—another palate cleanser, this time to set up the breathtaking finale, “Just Not!” That cryptic title doesn’t begin to suggest just how flat-out gorgeous the song is. Again featuring Argenis Brito and Jacopo Carreras, the song feels like an amalgam of all of Exercise One’s deepest tendencies, as ropy bass lines, dissipating chords and intricate rhythms spin together into a hypnotic, pulsing whole.

Anyone familiar with his releases on Cadenza, BPitch Control, and his own imprint Num Records can attest to the unique rhythmic textures and compositions that frame the musical stylings of Lee Van Dowski. Having made his first mark on Leena a little over a year ago with his collaboration with Agnès entited “Louder Elvis”, the mustached-man from France is back for a second round.

Based on the title of a sci-fi story series from the 1950’s, “The Variable Man” is a stomping house track, filled with vocals chopped and screwed beyond all recognition and a complex tunnel of melody (or is it noise?) that builds to an intense climax before cutting back to let the smattering of vocal snippets take the front seat. The B-side, „Thomas Cole Lives,“ is co-produced by Agnès and comes alive with rushing waves of synthesizers that throb in and out while continuing to morph as the track progresses. Both tracks are now available for exclusive download at Beatport and will be available at your favorite record store in the (very) near future.

There aren’t many DJs who embody euphoric raving, moments fraught with happiness and electric discharges onto the dancefloor, as Len Faki does. What has been reserved for dancers at Berghain and other international clubs, is now available on CD for the first time ever. ‘Berghain 03′ is a display of Faki’s mastery at its most compact and intense. Unlike a recording from a clubnight, this CD concentrates all aspects and tonalities of Len’s extensive sets at Berghain on 77 minutes. Len takes the listener on a journey, or rather an odyssey: At the beginning one is sucked into a hypnotic techno sound gradually developing a more and more intoxicating, electrifying and dramatic dynamic. Len Faki’s exclusive contribution ‘BX 3′ marks a first euphoric highlight being absorbed by Radioslave’s dubby undertones of ‘Neverending’, another exclusive track on this mix, followed by Basement Jaxx’ disco house transporting the euphoric atmosphere to a new frisky level. Towards the end Jerome Sydenham’s and Dennis Ferrer’s ‘Timbuktu’ adds a spiritual depth underlined by Burial’s remix of Bloc Party’s ‘Where Is Home?’ as a perfect closing track.

Having moved to Berlin in 2002 Len Faki took a creative break in order to restart as a DJ and musician. He became a resident at Berghain and launched his new labels Figure and Podium on which he released a series of excellent 12“s. The highlights of his own output were ‘Mekong Delta’ on Ostgut Ton and ‘My Black Sheep’ on Podium.

For anyone who experienced Len Faki internationally as a peaktime DJ or who only know him for his productions, the second, more house-y part of ‘Berghain 03′ might come as a surprise, as this aspect of his DJing has so far been reserved to his marathons at Berghain. But Faki rises to the special challenge of presenting such a set during the length of a CD, without suffering the loss of the broad stylistic range of such a night. Being able to show that it’s still possible to bring oppositional tracks into a coherent context on this mix has been a task close to Len’s heart. As a matter of fact, this is the main theme of ‘Berghain 03′. Techno and house don’t appear as antagonists here, but rather are the manifestations of the same emotive erruptions. By changing styles Len Faki reveals connections you can feel. By layering the tracks for very long periods they all appear in a new light.

In spite of the stylistic openness, ‘Berghain 03′ is still a techno mix. For Len Faki, techno is the music of happiness. The energy of the dancefloor feeds back to the turntables and creates a loop driving dancers into ecstasy, bedazzling listeners during the course of 20 tracks; from John Beltran’s orchestral sounds to Burial’s fey Dubstep.

Moderat’s formation began back in 2002 when Sascha Ring (aka Apparat) and
Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary (aka Modeselektor) recorded an EP for the
record label BPitch Control. The making of this release was incredibly exhausting for
the three of them, and at the last minute they renamed the EP “Auf Kosten der
Gesundheit” (which translates to “At The Cost Of Health”). When it came time to begin
working on an album, Moderat suddenly broke up.
A short time later both Modeselektor and Apparat simultaneously worked on their own
full-length albums — Modeselektor’s debut, Hello Mom!, and Apparat’s collaboration
with Ellen Allien, Orchestra of Bubbles. Each went on to become successful releases
and were followed by two career-defining albums for the individual acts. Additionally,
since their debut releases, both acts have performed over 1,000 shows at nearly every
point of the globe.
Modeselektor’s sophomore album in 2007, Happy Birthday!, set a milestone in
German music history including musicians such as Puppetmastaz, Maximo Park and
Thom Yorke. Amongst a slew of remixes for the likes of Thom Yorke and Björk,
Modeslektor also went on to tour with Radiohead across Japan in 2008.
Apparat, on the other hand, moved forward with his album Walls in 2007, taking a
musical path that was more band-oriented and kept him on tour for several years
running.
It was a twist of fate that brought about Modeselektor and Apparat’s reunion in the
spring of 2008. Szary and Bronsert, both proud fathers, were on their way to the
“Stadtbad Mitte” (Berlin-Mitte City Pool) with their children for their regular Monday
swimming lessons when they ran into Ring, a devout bachelor who happened to be
accompanied by several dubious females. After a battering of verbal abuse, the three
gentlemen quickly made peace and decided to get back to work on their collaborative
album post haste. Thus, Moderat was reformed.
In recording Moderat’s self-titled album, the three men began by renting studio space
at the legendary Berlin Hansa Studios (where Bowie recorded Heroes) in order to
record the album in analog with the help of the studio’s vintage tube technology and
an old EMI console from 1972, restored especially for Moderat. American software
designer, Joshua Kit Clayton, was hired to program a superb reverb algorithm specifically
for the recording process of this album. This exquisite sound design is one of the
reasons why the promotional copies can be listened to only in mono. Finished copies
will, of course, be in full stereo.
Additionally, during the first phases of recording the Moderat album, Szary and Bronsert
bought an EMT Model 140 Plate Reverb on an Internet auction and had to travel to
Los Angeles to pick it up. While there, they met the Californian rapper Busdriver and
the groundwork for “BeatsWaySick” was laid. Moderat continued to work on this with
Busdriver from their respective continents. Unfortunately due to legal issues at the
time of manufacturing, this track will be released as an exclusive download in the
near future.

Back in the studio, the Berlin vocalist Dellé (aka Eased) from leading German act
Seeed found himself in Moderat’s studio room while on a quest to find a bottle opener.
There on the spot, the three gents of Moderat finally waved good-bye to the concept
of a mere instrumental album and said hello to vocal recordings and the song “Sick
With It”. Coincidentally, they found older vocal recordings of Paul St. Hilaire that
had been recorded by Szary and Bronsert way back on low-noise 1/4″ analog tape.
Those recordings are what led to “Slow Match”. All this encouraged Szary and Bronsert
to convince Ring it was time for him to contribute vocals, which can be heard on
“Rusty Nails” and “Out Of Sight”. “Rusty Nails” is the first single, which will feature
remixes by Shackleton and Booka Shade.
The self-titled album Moderat will also be available as a limited edition DVD produced
by the Berlin based artist collective Pfadfinderei. The DVD will feature music videos
and more exclusive content. Pfadfinderei will also contribute visuals to all Moderat
live shows.

Mihalis Safras is an undeniable force in the field of groove minimal techno form Greece.
He has established himself on Trapez ltd and has gained also a lot of
respect through his remixes for Ricardo Villalobos and BPitch.

Mihalis has recorded his forth record “Cable“ together with the
Swedish artist Kimono aka Kim Stockblom who has been djing
since the age of 14 in Sweden and has recently started producing.

The a-side track “Cable” is an hypnotic ”acid” like grinder… spooky
and deep for DJ´s that like to connect tunes and build up dynamics in their sets.
“Aero” on the flipside is a fantastic modern house tune… l
oose and funky, soft, bouncy and percussive with vocal stabs and organic
sounding organ sounds. A cool and deep track that is a nice follow up to
his previous records on Trapez ltd.

“Divine” the digital bonus track is a more “in your face” sort of
techno house… using stronger attacks and louder stabs of sound
establishing a nice groove to go along with!

In 2008 began a new chapter for Berlin-based Italian Filippo Moscatello, with his choice to retire his DJ Naughty alias representing a shift back to his techno and house roots after a decade of eclectic, electro mischief.

Metamorphosis and re-invention are key themes. Equally prolific as remix artist and producer, Filippo has reinvigorated tracks for artists of the calibre of Goldfrapp, Fischerspooner, Inner City and many others.

A flag-bearer for DJ Hell’s genre-redefining ‘International Deejay Gigolo’ label in the late 90’s with his first 12-inch release ‘Boing Bumm Tschag’. His debut artist album ‘Disco Volante’ and collaborations with Terranova and The Cosmonauts of Innerspace followed, further distinguishing his place at the helm of the disco-charged house aesthetic at the birth of the millennium.

Equally prominent in his productions, an intuitive logic maps Filippo’s ascendancy to the forefront of the Berlin soundscape. Sicilian-born, his Italo-Disco education resonates throughout his releases on seminal labels such as Eskimo and K7!, and reflects in his relationships formed with studio mates and kindred spirits Ewan Pearson and Sasse.

His latest transformation has found fertile ground on Sasse’s ‘Moodmusic’ imprint, with last year’s ‘World EP’ paving the way for a new studio album to be released in the winter of this year. These sophisticated house and techno productions count as some of Filippo’s finest work yet, suggesting that his decision to send the naughty boy to bed might just be taking the party to the next level.

The third time is, indeed, always a charm and Back to Back Vol. 3, mobilee’s third installment of the Back to Back compilation series, proves just that!
Back to Back Vol. 3 combines the id, ego and superego of the selected 2008 tracks produced by mobilees, remixed by various other artists and then mixed again by Miss Jools in a 2-disc spectacular: CD1 is an unmixed selection of 2008 mobilee tracks, all handpicked by Miss Jools, while CD2 welcomes a list of her favorite producers to remix their picks of the mobilee pack with an additional Miss Jools spin. Inside, a vivacious mixture of deep house tracks, loopy house tools, and down right funky and groovy tracks can be heard. The evolution of the Back to Back compilation series has greatly transpired since the Vol. 1 mobilee-only in-house remix session by Anja Schneider. GummiHz mixed together around 30 tracks, creating loops, editing mobilee tracks and using various cool tools on Vol. 2 and now Miss Jools has invited talents from the likes of Cassy, Tobias, Nick Curly, Dinky, D’Julz, Efdemin, Christian Burkhardt, Vincenzo, Sven Tasnadi and Solomun, extending the musical preference.

“Each artist that is a part of the compilation has their own unique individual style which I admire and respect in their productions and which also reflects largely what I play in my own DJ sets. This being the reason to bring these artists together and collaborate for the compilation,” said Miss Jools. Miss Jools, aka Berlin-based Julia Porter, has been on the grind ever since she left London and joined the ranks of mobilee in the summer of 2008. And she’s been successfully winnings the hearts of Berlin’s top players in a short time, not to mention, landing the role of the 3rd Back to Back artist. “Following on from Anja and Gummihz’s previous B2Bs was a hard act to follow, but a great challenge for me. Mobilee has achieved so much over the past years, and has such an impressive catalogue of amazing music from all their artists.”

After Part #1 (BPC174) and Part #2 (BPC184), here´s the third and last one, Happy

The last congratulators are the bustling frenchman Feadz, the Berlin based Moritz
Friedrich aka Siriusmo, and our own homegrown techno artist Paul Kalkbrenner.
A1 – Suckerpin (Feadz Remix)
Feadz already proved a lot of times that he is always a force to reckoned with – not
only with last year´s album. He uses this attitude as a guideline for his interpretation
of the already groovy “Suckerpin” Original. Feadz combines the nonchalance of the
original with the dynamic of his unmistakable and distinctive sound aesthetics. Sweat
on the dancefloor!

A2 – 2000007 (Siriusmo Remix)
Siriusmo takes the theme of the original track and playfully combines it with his own
beats and pieces. The result is this pumping Remix, persuasively light and uncomplicated,
but totally convincing at any time.

B1 – 2000007 (Paul Kalkbrenner´s Tap Some Bong Remix)
The B-side then is reserved entirely for Paul Kalkbrenner’s interpretation.
Paul divides the original piece into its individual parts, incorporating them in familiar
manner into a dancefloor burner while the rare, solid vocals are reminiscent of the
original.

Tom Dazing is an upcoming artist from Brussels who has released

Tom has a powerful production technique and a cool old school appeal which he
fuses with modern sound design. His new release features “Divulge” and “Cable strap”
two peak time techno trax with a heavy 303 bassline that will rock all big floors.

“Divulge” the a-side is destined to be a Berghain hit. The track is a monster. ‘
It’s attitude is down to earth… keeps it simple but effective.

“Cable Strap” on the flipside is a new modern version of music that we
believe used to be the post Chicago sound manifested by Robert Armani
and friends. “Cable Strap” is a super cool heavy rocker with a siren sound
that will turn clubs upside down, joined by delicate use of 303 basslines.

“Temper” the digital bonus track has more of an atmospheric deep feeling to it!

Tom has been voted in Belgium in the top 10 chart of the best national
producers in 2007 and 2008 and was voted into the to chart top 10
national live acts. He has performed in the Fuse club and will
play in U6031club in January.

Having just been voted label of the year by Resident Advisor, Ostgut Ton looks set to continue that run with more superb releases in 2009.

‘One’ is the debut album of Ben Klock. With its forward thinking appeal, it smoothly follows on from Shed’s debut this year. Controlling his output over the last decade with care and accuracy, Ben has only released a dozen EPs, rather than falling for an inflationary release policy. Working with Ostgut Ton, Bpitch Ctrl, Memo and his own platform Klockworks only, he chose trust and longevity over quick visibility.

So how does a producer whose 12”s have always been dedicated 100% to the dancefloor, approach his first album? “I haven’t had a prefab concept really. All I wanted was it to work on it as an album. The piece’s atmospheres in itself and in relation to each other were of greater concern than thoughts like ‘do I need another ambient track, or do I need a kick drum to make this work in a club?’ In principle, all of it’s techno, but I don’t see ‘One’ as a pure club album.”

Stylistically, Klock draws on plentiful resources. There’s the dirty techno in ‘Grip’, the sexy intermittent ‘Check Your Pulse’, alongside ambient like tracks like ‘Init One’ and ‘Init Two’, as well as the dubstep inspired ‘Goldrush’. And then there are the outstanding cuts ‘Goodly Sin’ and ‘Ok’ featuring Elif Biçer’s vocals. In comparison to her records with Prosumer & Murat Tepeli, here her voice has been reduced to the bare essentials.

With its rugged bassline and crafty claps ‘Ok’ is even reminiscent of a contemporary version of Nicolette’s early work with Shut Up And Dance, but first and foremost it expands the Berghain sound to include a notion of pop.

‘One’ displays a depth and maturity of sound rarely found in this compactness. In all its stylistic variety, this album oozes with Klock’s traditional understanding of techno. The special sound at Berghain, the low bass, the hiss and the rumble, the economically used melodic fragments and the eerie atmospheres are present at any moment of this recording. The album creates a sealed off space reflecting Berghain as an actual place. Ben Klock defines techno as visonary music knowing about its past, yet appearing completely up to date without ever coming close to Detroit and minimal clichés.

‘One’ is a powerful techno album marking an early highlight in 2009 and it raises the bar both for techno and Ostgut Ton. Not a small feat at all!

After Telefon Tel Aviv, it is our pleasure to welcome the next prestigious Electronica/Avant- Hop duo on Bpitch Control: AGF/Delay.
Neither Antye Greie (AGF) nor Sasu Ripatti (Vladislav Delay / Luomo) require much of an introduction. With their various projects, both have long left an indelible imprint on electronic music.
Besides two AGF albums that appeared on her label of the same name (”Words are Missing” and “Dancefloor Drachen”), Antye Greie has produced “SooL”, the fourth album from Bpitch front woman Ellen Allien and has also worked on various multimedia art projects in the past year.

Her significant other, Sasu Ripatti / Vladislav Delay, also worked on several projects including the release of his fourth Luomo album “Convivial” last October, wrote songs with the New York pop band Scissor Sisters, and played in the Moritz von Oswald trio alongside Moritz von Oswald himself.

After catching global attention with his releases on MRIʼs Resopal label and Get Physical,
Paul Ritch is crowning the beginning of 2009 with his debut Wagon Repair release.
The young Parisianʼs ascent was characterized by his injection of warm latin rhythms into
the traditionally cold and calculated techno format, and this latest effort is no exception to
the habit.
Opener ʻEvil Laffʼ effervesces like a lab experiment, with layers of rich sampled percussion
looping, stuttering and decompressing as the track picks up steam. Motored by competing
snare and hat patterns and accented by bubbling melodic tone, the movement is
measured throughout by a sinister vocal presence.
On the flip, ʻEvil Laff (Konrad Black Remix)ʼ sees the Wagon Repair veteran plunge the
original into even darker waters. Slammed metallic percussion and a deep ascendant bass
melody dictate the pace, culminating in a determined drive of thudded keys and racing
shake at the narratorʼs command.

From studying music at Oxford University, to starting one of the early live electronic acts (Beat Foundation) in the 90′s with Andy Cato of Groove Armada, to writing a string of underground club hits on his label Playtime, Mike Monday has consistently stood apart from the crowd.

His two albums ‘Smorgasboard’ and ‘Songs without Words’ released on OM records last September, ably demonstrate his power and aptitude for the dancefloor. With his monthly podcast “Monday Club”, a regular blog “The Unanswered Question”, as well as worldwide album tour DJ dates you wouldn’t expect him to have much time for anything else. But he has decided to go back to his performance roots and come up with a live show – that promises to be spontanious and dangerous. He’s also been collaborating with Simple’s Will Saul in recent months – their single ‘Zippo’ is released on Buzzin’ Fly in February and their already hard at work in the studio again for the follow up.

If anyone knows how to lovingly craft a big hook it’s Mike Monday. His single ‘Bhalobashi’ has been Simple’s biggest selling single of all time. ‘Zwivetty’ is seriously infectious, weird and wonky disco absolutely bursting with soul and character, treading the line between organic and electronic perfectly. Drums that sound slightly out of control (in a good way), huge stabs and an ingeniously cut-up string sample. Think Sound Stream on acid. For the dub Mike takes out the stabs and builds the tension around the strings. Played back to back they are devastating combination. ‘Mr.Gone’ is an altogether different proposition. Undulating techno with de-tuned guitar licks, an evil acid arp-line and perfectly off kilter percussion that all leads to a stunning ‘Squarepusher-esque’ bass-line solo by Mike himself.

One thing that’s been a constant factor of Marco Carola’s releases over the last couple of years is the ability to seamlessly integrate breaks and beats into his productions, giving them an unmistakeable feel that sets him apart from his contemporaries. More than just relaxing the sometimes overbearing grip of the 4/4 kick to let the abstract, micro-funk of his rhythm sections seep through, it pays homage to eras gone by, adding a strong presence of the past to his forward thinking ideas. So, it’s not before time that Carola chooses to highlight this theme, combining three distinctive cuts for the 3rd release of his Minus backed 2M imprint with heavy duty rhythm patterns that are as refreshing in the current dance music climate as they are necessary to the continued evolution of the genre.

Earthy and tenacious, Tribe is no doubt a shout to the crowds that flock to hear him play every weekend. Kicking off in typical Carola fashion, the intro is soon smothered by a chugging bassline and additional layers of latin-esque percussion including a shimmering tambourine and a raw, funky conga line that carries the track forward. Once the track is fully constructed you know you’re onto a winner as Carola simply lets the liquid groove flow, occasionally punctuating each stanza with tricky little drum fills or sampled shouts, while utilising a buzzing synth stab to inject some intensity into the proceedings with a few gentle crescendos.

If the aim of this EP is to highlight the spontaneous percussive vibe of the tracks, then just as Tribe speaks through its seductive, snaking grooves, Drumming is all about the complex drum solo that lies at its heart, utilising real kit sounds in a syncopated jazz style breakdown. It starts off harmlessly enough with a deep, clicky kick pattern that’s soon joined by an entourage of regimented per cussion lines and a mechanical, jacking organ/bass hybrid. Time gradually becomes a loop with elements dropping in and out every eight bar cycle before, seemingly out of nowhere, Carola unleashes a battery of live drums. The elongated, freestyle drum solo that follows is ambitious to say the least but Carola carries it off it aplomb. All in all, it’s a deliciously simple concept that does exactly what it says on the tin, sprinkling a bit of magic on the dancefloor in the process.

The digital only track Plaster completes the release in bass heavy, breakbeat fashion. It’s a low slung empty groove that takes full advantage of the space between the beats, filling them with all manner of drum loops and fills – sometimes in dub, sometimes pushed to the forefront. Once again Carola proves himself a master arranger. His tracks never feel rushed, instead they ebb and flow without fuss integrating bridges, breakdowns and bass kicks to intensify and relax the situation as needed.

This latest 2M release offers a fresh, alternative take on the current percussion lead techno sound and as usual Carola comes up with a few welcome surprises to warm things up this winter.

This is Zombielicious, the new Zombie Nation Album. Ten years after
his first release Florian Senfter gives his core project the next paint job
- and it´s pink! The 4th longplayer continues the evolution of
the zombie-sound, following his unique approach to electronic
music and emphasizing his skills as producer.

As part of his ongoing love affair with analogue studio machines
and vintage synthesizers, Florian is on his mission to put that noisy
weed in the right place so it can shine bright. High octane drums
and dirty basslines are his associates when it comes to dribbling
with krank energies. This slice of original Munich street beat is
stacked with synth wizardry and electronic disco funk.

In other words: this is the perfect soundtrack to jerk around in your
favourite club, eat a pizza while cruising with your Citroen CX, or to
go on a truffle hunt with your pig in the northern Italian Alps.
Florian on Zombielicious:
The whole production including mastering was done at Zombie
Studios in Munich. The sound comes natural, but there are many
bits and pieces involved in creating a song. I want to give you a
snapshot of what´s going on in my studio and how things develop
in a Zombie´s brain.

1. Mas de Todo [5:53]
In Munich there are 3 spots where you can surf on a standing
wave on the Isar-river. One of them only appears when it rains a lot
for 2 weeks straight, which happens when the clouds are stuck at
the nearby alps. Anyway – one day I had the idea to film the surfers
and make a song while having that image in my mind. For the “solo” I
used a spring reverb which is the main ingredient to 60s Beach Boys
style surf music.

2. Get It [4:30]
This song needed vocals, I just couldn’t find words. In this
case I always call “My Robot Friend” in New York. He liked the song,
and came up with lyrics perfectly complementing over the weekend.
Yeeeee – easy as that.

3. Supercake 53 [7:11]
Guitars, Violins, Tambourine and a Rhodes. Almost like a hippie Band.
Me all by myself dancing in circles shaking my hair like there’s no tomorrow.

4. Radio Controlled [4:46]
This song is the result of a little too much Augustiner beer with Steve P.,
who was also involved in the past (“Money Talks”). In this song most
instruments are played by hand without time quantization and
looped afterwards. Just listen to the wacky “solo” in the middle of
the song and you know what I mean .

5. The Fact [4:44]
When Tiga and I were in the process of finding a name for our
project ZZT he said, ‘Man “Dj Laserface” – that´s it.’ Luckily we went
for ZZT instead Well, should DJ Laserface really exists he’d fire his lasergun
Well, if DJ Laserface really exists he fires his lasergun in this song.
The percussions were recorded on location in a smelly public underpass.

6. Worth it pt1 [4:40] / 7. Worth it pt2 [5:05]
“….it’s got the real funk, not too heavy, almost deep in a strange
way…..I love it”. It is summer 2008 -
everybody’s chillin´ in the sun … Sitting in my studio, a basement
connected to the outside world only by a small soundproof double
window I am working on this song and watching the legs of happy people
walking by on their way to the beer garden. The window is open,
sometimes somebody sticks his head in. I am sure they are all going
to the beer garden and in 10 minutes they will be holding a big beer in
their hands, eating roasted pork, chatting with friends while breathing

8. Mystery Meat Affair [7:00]
It would be hard for me to pick my favourite song from the album,
but this one is definitely in the tops.
The burning bass of my beloved Sidstation pairs up with the 70s Organ
and some recorded claps and percussions. This song to me tells a story.

9. Shottieville [4:51]
That one took a long time. Axel (Weber) hammered that incredible beat
on his 70s Gretsch Drumset and there was no synth or nothing that
could live up to the power of it for a long time. The original beat
was lying around for one full year until I finished it. All the instruments
were played manually and I kept the synths straight, simple and heavy.

10. Filterjerks [4:07]
Filterjerks was released already on the “Gizmode 12″ – I think it´s still fresh
and it definitely belongs on this album.

11. Seas Of Grease [4:08]
I needed to release some energy. This one is rough and nerve wrecking.
12. Stand By [3:55]
Traditionally there has to be one slower song on a Zombie Nation Album –
this is it. Sounds to me like David Hasselhoff on acid.

13. Forza [4:27]
When Forza came out in October 2008 I received a lot of great feedback.
That gave me a good energy push during the final mixdown stages of my
album recordings. It’s got the funk.

14. Bass Kaput [4:48]
By touring with Soulwax quite a few times I learned, that turning the
filter knob with some noise in it is always a funny thing to do. So I planned
to make a song with only noisy filter in it as a tool for the lazy
DJ to play in between 2 songs. Initially this song didn´t even
have a bassdrum – but I got a hint that no one besides me would
understand this song without bass or bassdrum in it – so I gave in this one time.

Back in the day when acid was just a tab, DJ Pierre was holed up in his Chicago bedroom inventing a sound that would impact the music scene forever. In 1986, the infancy of ‘acid house’ was spawned when DJ Pierre picked up a Roland 303 and created ‘Acid Trax’, released on Trax Records under his Phuture moniker: Acid.

Here comes the long awaited second part of the collaboration ‘
between Dominik Eulberg and Gabriel Ananda.
The first part „Kirschplunder & Jasmin Tee bei Gabriel“ was recorded at
Gabriel Ananda´s studio in Cologne. The follow up „Eucalypse Now!” was
recorded at Dominik Eulberg´s studio „Ton“ in the Westerwald and carries
all the influences Dominik takes in there.

The first 12” ever with both of them teaming up on Traum was the
„Harzer Roller” 12“ (Traum V70) in 2006. So now 3 years later you can
witness two long epic and enthusiastic mixes on vinyl and an alternative mix
on the digital side, which is more reduced and late night.

The title track “Eucalypse Now!“ is a cool almost Latin flavoured groove
track with cool synth stabs. An epic groover which has the finest up and
downs… changes perspectives within it’s 10 minute journey… always offering
new dynamic impulses and changes in the harmonies…
highlighting peaks of powerful chubbiness “Bill Kilgore” on the flipside is a cool,
static, monotone, post trance, epic track which slowly builds up to a 10 minute
hypnotic tracker!

In addition we also bring you a late night digital bonus dub mix by
Dominik Eulberg.

upcoming artists: Chaim, which is the new foster child from Tel Aviv in the BPitch
family, and Paul Ritch, who is getting a lot of attention with his latest releases. All

A1: Ondu
“Ondu“ is already a milestone within the “SooL“ album. Thus the track was literally
claiming for an extra single release. “Ondu“ is having two faces: obliging and harmonious
on the one, and ruggedly and dusky on the other side.
A2: Ondu (Paul Ritch Remix)
Paul Ritch chopped up the track “Ondu“ to his constituent parts. He isolates each
effect and gives it a new determination – without changing the main character of the
track. Paul Ritch´s Remix of “Ondu“ keeps the spleeny and schizophrenic attitude of
the original, but gives the track much more sleaziness.

B1: Caress (Chaim Remix)
Chaim already starts to reel the track “Caress“ from the backside. It feels like Chaim
would be hitting the sound carpet with a big beater. The result is a track that easily
reminds of the original, but the hypnotic silence gets overturned by a whorled
disturbance.

B2: Caress
“Caress“ already comes up on a magic carpet. By doing so, the audience gets announced
to feel comfortable and get excited about the upcoming surprises. And these are big
surprises! With a hypnotic, aspirate voice the track takes possession, and in the same

Raw Hedroom is Gareth William, an English producer who
has already recorded on Leftroom and now it’s time for his
Trapez debut with this two tracker on vinyl!

“Onorin” is a modern post Chicago-Detroit piece of techno ,
which works with that kind of understatement that we always loved
with techno from either Detroit or Chicago.

A sequence, manipulated /modulated and with a feel for organic
funkiness shows itself in the shape of a worm that sometimes breaks
through to the surface. In addition to that there is a bit of a
psychedelic connotation with vocals repeatedly stating/saying:
“On the bed… under the bed”.

A sexy and sensual track with a good portion of high tec behind it,
since Gareth works with the Lemur polyphonic touch screen that
also Daft Punk use when playing live.

On the flipside the track “Only boring people get bored” is one
that uses the classic formula or technique to create funk, by grouping
small, strange und funny cut up or sequenced sounds next to
the kick drum. Midget sounds make it funky. and a deranged down
pitched vocal talks along and gives the track a modern and cool Chicago feel!
The first digital bonus track “Scalep” follows in the footsteps of “Only boring
people get bored” and has traces of funkiness featured throughout the track.

The second digital bonus track is a remix of “Onorin” by Arjuna Schiks from
Amsterdam who started composing and producing when he was 15.
He was the winner of the vinylized dance competition
for most talented producer award of 2008. His first vinyl Ep was released
on All Is One Records and was supported by Dave Clarke, Michel de Hey,
Laidback Luke, Isis and more. His “Onorin” remix is a cool combination
of understatement combined rhythmically with a nice stop and go motion.

The third digital bonus track comes with a Emerson Todd remix of “Onorin”.
Emerson’s remix “Rumpelstilskin” was picked up by many DJs and his
releases on Dirty Bird triggered tidal waves.

His massive remix of “Onorin” will set a mark also on Trapez.

made Piemont decide to record an album.

Much more than that, it is their consistency over the last years
with various releases and remixes also on other labels, plus not accepting
any conmpromise on style and quality that made them record a whole
album of new tracks called: „Strange World Beyond“ .

Dedicated to the deep sea, each track plays a special role for them
with this concept album.

„Carbonat“ and „Black Smoker“ catapulted Piemont into many charts

Piemont have recently played in The Cocoon Club, toured Japan and
have played festivals and clubs all around Europe and will play showcases
during their album tour which starts in January 2009.

For Piemont a track is never finished. The doubt of never being able to
live up to the ideal of „the perfect song“ is a source of creativity for them,
keeping them striving for more interesting arrangements and sounds.

That Piemont’s background is not solely a techno one but includes many
influences they can draw on, can be witnessed by their sympathy for
different musical styles on their album .

„Strange World Beyond“ creates funky rocking moments of clubbiness
with tracks such as: „Eyeshine“, „Strange World Beyond“, „Lighter
Than Seawater“ and „Talk Flows Like A River“, and also includes their hits

The new “wunderkind” from the UK, Max Cooper.
Max is a great UK DJ who is also involved in mathematical modelling
research on the evolution of networks of genes at University College London,
a sci-art project combining evolutionary and music production algorithms.
Max Cooper has many lives and he is a true wizard in his category.

Born originally in Belfast he has been resident at the Rumour as well as
playing his 9th year at clubnight “Firefly”. Max can be heard regularly Djing
in The Key – London, Stealth – Nottingham and The Cross – London.

He was quickly recognised by the media, receiving the label of Mixmag ‘future
hero’.
Max has joined Traum with a 5 tracker involving top English producer
Kanio for a remix of the a-side track “Harmonisch Serie” as well as including
another English artist, Ito, remixing his track “Compact Yourself“ on the digital side.

Max Cooper´s innovative programming positions him music-wise alongside
artists such as Dominik Eulberg, Minilogue and Extrawelt.
His epic structure has a unique narrative character to it which distinguishes
him from others and sometimes dares to become almost soundtrack like, full of
ambience. Maybe this is best expressed by his B2 track “i” , which you can
hear digitally in an even longer version.
His debut on Traum is a unique sound sensation of incredible details
and big sound layouts, as if made for Traum. Melodic and gentle but at the

2008 saw us celebrating our 10th year and 100th release on Traum. To finish off this
special year we are proud to present the anniversary remixes of Extrawelt´s
“Im Garten Von Eben”! The remixes are produced by a new league of artist as
well as friends we have been working with for years!

Max Cooper is a young English artist who has been in the English techno
scene for 9 years, being voted a “future hero” in the Mixmag. His DJ skills
have made him famous in the UK with DJ appearances in all big venues in the UK.
Please enjoy the wonderful and fabulous voyage his „Tensor“
mix creates. You will see more of Max Cooper in January with his
„Harmonisch Serie“ 12“ on Traum.

Kaiserdisco will release on MBF in 2009, but since they are skilled remixers,
we asked them to remix Extrawelt´s tune “Im Garten von Eben”. Their

scene we just want to remark, Brinkmann is the only person ever to
have remixed both Richie Hawtin and Wolfgang Voigt. He is one
of the few German musicians who released with the legendary label
Mute as Soul Center and who had the guts to release his Depeche
Mode remix on his own label. We could go on and on, but we want to
also mention his fabulous “Tour De Traum” CD he did for us. Ok, his
“Gadda Da Vida“ mix of “Im Garten Von Eben“ is as always spiced with
special samples, that give the track a psychedelic feel as well as being a beat monster.

Roland M. Dill has done great remixes of Minilogue´s “Space” and
Lucio Aquilina´s “Disco Bus” that have been charted heavily and made
it to the top 5 sales charts in Beatport. He has recorded two 12″
on Trapez ltd already and more releases are panned for 2009. Writing
true rockers seems to be his destiny. Check out this one!

Helge Kuhl is a new discovery from Cologne. His “Evantgart” remix of
“Im Garten Von Eben“ is defiantly “new School” and not typical for German
music or trends. Helge has created his own environment and will record
a whole 12″ for us in 2009.

Citizen Kain had their first release with MBF and created quite a stir with their
pounding a-side track „Doppelgänger“ seven months ago.
Their new ep „Joker of the Queen“ is a legitimate follow up with its monstrous
bad drums and hitting percussions and ghostly whispers!
The a-side and title track „Joker of the Queen“ is sheer rave alarm with fog,
strobe and 303. The alternation of beat, breaks and cool rave sounds creates a
cool techno environment.
„Borderline“, „Morning Glory“ and „En Apparte“ are brothers of the same kind
and close the door on Citizen Kain´s new rave sound.
As a digital bonus track we see another Koook remix popping up. After remixing
Michel Cleist´s „Deconstructed“ the mysterious man has again put his hands on
samples and has produced a brilliant remix of „Joker of the Queen“.
