Wagon Repair is thrilled to announce the debut of Sex Trothler, alter ego of Berlin based
Detroit native Seth Troxler.
With releases on Spectral, Esperanza and Circus Company, Troxler is one of few Michigan
acts who have started bubbling out of Detroit’s underground and student party set over the
last few years. Names like Troxler, Ryan Crosson and Lee Curtiss are part of a new
generation of musicians from the Motor City who are merging European minimal house
and techno with local influences, not to mention adding a wacky brand of humour to
dance’s often dead seriousness.
Opener ‘Face (Tribute to Head)’ centres around ping pong live percussion, diving female
vocal and screwed male vocal-cum-atmospheric. Plodding bass and slowly released pads
support an undulating lead synth line in an hypnotic and deep house journey.
The ‘Interlude’ brings an element of humour to the record, with a funkadelic vocal
announcement mixed above a perversely wacked out electronic funk soundtrack.
To close, ‘Jus Your’ opens with a warm organ sound, disturbed vocal and deep synth
pulse. Breaking into a strutted rhythm, the mix is complemented by disorienting siren
tones, clattering percussion and surprise heavy bass melodies. Unabashedly deep and
sleazy, Sex Trothler has outdone himself.
