Kitsune

yes, the Kitsune that brought us those wonderful compilations, vinyl singles, Digitalism, Crystal Castles, Metronomy, and so many more — has also been producing a wide array of products since its inception. From shirts to sweaters to jeans, the label has been curating not only a fantastic music roster, but an all around amazing lifestyle collection!

The French trend setters just produced a beautiful sesame-themed candle, the design of which incorporates thousands of sesame seeds! The scent, too, sounds delightful; an “eccentric” white sesame seed based concoction that’s mellow and soothing. (More info on the candle here.)

In addition to the candle, Kitsune has also released a drool-worthy pair of “classic new” five-pocket jeans, produced in Japan. The indigo-died raw denim jeans are tastefully created with a delicate and sophisticated touch, enough to convince any denim lover (or anyone looking for a hip new pair of jeans!) that these are a must for all wardrobes!

Keep an eye out for the Kitsune goods!

And this is only the beginning, so keep your eyes peeled and be aware of the collection’s new releases in the coming months.

Jay Haze

Fuckpony, the American Jay Haze, now living in Berlin, picks up the origins of electronic dance music and transfers it into great minimal music. “Lady Judy” is a great Bpitch Control release.

The first lady of house music, Lady Judy, may be known to many of you who frequent Fabric. Her legendary staying power has inspired not one or two but three producers - namely Berliner American Jay haze & London’s own Matt Styles (Crosstown Rebels) and current hot producer Jamie Jones to dedicate this twelve to her - in fact “to the ultimate raver who got the funk”! Inspired by the classic “Baby Judy” from DBX on Accelerate, Detroit - the voice on “Lady Judy” is the one and only Lil Dirrty Ghetto Bastard. The Ex-Street-Hustler, now House MC and Rapper from Philly who has appeared on records such as Samim’s huge “House Nation”.That his voice sounds distorted like being on laughing gas is not just a coincidence - it’s inspired by everyone’s darling Judy whose love for that special gas is notorious. Anyone with a balloon beware!

ITEMS & THINGS

Magda, Troy Pierce and Marc Houle’s occasional label Items & Things makes a welcome return, featuring four more superlative grooves from Marc Houle, Kasper, Thrill Cosby and Alexi Delano. The label was created as an outlet for the weird, experimental and beautiful sounds the trio often come across on their travels and “Spies & Lies” fits the bill perfectly, containing music that will stimulate, overwhelm and confound in equal measures.

The 12 minute monster is the first track on Locodice & Martin Buttrich’s new label! Deep Dish (Dubfire is one of the duo) were responsible for some amazing records in the mid 90s but in the last 5 years or so, they have pursued a more commerical direction. Apparently, a visit to DC10 inspired this return to form! This track brings forth a deeper, hallucinogenic sound that has always been at the core of Dubfire’s music. Limited one-sided vinyl and set to be one of Ibiza’s tunes of the summer a la Doppelwhipper!!!! By the way, a 1 min sampler does not do it justice…..

The new Lausanne / Berlin based avant-garde label MINIMOOD releases a stunning debut 001 featuring foundsound co-head FUSIPHORM and vidab’s KOLJAH. The GREEN CHOCOLATE EP unleashes a high-quality triple serving of dextrous and sophisticated minimal click alchemy.
FUSIPHORM’s a1 ‘green chocolate’ lays down an early solid foundation by intertwining a pulsating bassline with minimal chipped beats to create a driving shuffling rhythm. As the suspense builds up, the track suddenly explodes into a grizzling, throbbing dance floor monster. Huge. Intergalactic in fact!
With ‘mister blue’ on b1, FUSIPHORM moves into deeper territory as he takes you on a journey through a bubbling industrial post-digital landscape. Chopped percussive slices and syncopated skittering hats bounce off undeniable underbeats, which together form an alchemic partnership with the haunting, insistent melody. The industrial glitches seamlessly give way to a warped new world blend of dubbed out bells and echoing wood blocks. Moody, dextrous and quite simply, unavoidable!
KOLJAH really gets down to business on b2 with his exploding cake recipe for how to make cake from green chocolate. A ‘how to make the crowd scream at primetime’-tool! Essential!

Look out for the YUKSEK & BLENDE REMIXES!

The a side track “Musik Bringt Freundschaft” meaning “Music Brings Friendship” is a joyful and emotional minimal house mover with cool breakdowns and melodic sequences. The track has a cool way of being clubby without putting a stranglehold on the clubber or dictating moves. The track is very airy and follows a nice collective spirit with melodies running up and down and plenty of breaks to collect energy to rave.”Man Alive! on the flipside is more classic and definitely a more tight minimal house track. It has some reminiscences to Steve Bugs “Loverboy” but incorporates also the melodic cool laidback feeling Nicolas Stefan is known for

B1 Glass Computer (Mark August remix)
B2 Noedrocca

About the release :
Introduced by James Holden, Lucy (Curle rec) is a new italian talent based in Paris. And he comes up here with a very Strong release!
On the A side, the amazing Glass computer (co-produced with friends) is an odyssey into electronic music and catchy beat. 7 minutes of happiness and emotion for the crowd.
After his wonderful last release on our label, Masaya (Perspectiv / Num rec) makes the dub and he looks like a trip into a deep forest with his minimal tribal bassline, trough the tree at the night. Simply wonderful.
On the flip side the Amsterdam based Mark August (Poker Flat, Connaisseur, Curle, Mezzotinto), is making one of the best remix for ages. With his unique touch Mark takes us by the hand into his very personal universe. Funk, magic deepness and killer break out, this is one the best remix you will hear this year, no doubt!

The jesters of techno aka Modeselektor return 2005’s extremely popular and critically acclaimed “Hello Mom” with a follow up that follows in it’s predecessor’s steps without being a straight up regurgitation of it. Along with their wide array of distinguished guests - TTC, Paul St Hilaire (Tikiman), Otto Von Schirach, Maximo Park, Thom Yorke - they transverse the whole spectrum of 4/4 whilst often being not so 4/4. The beats are dsp’d and very crunchy and the rhythms vary widely. We challenge anyone to listen to “Happy Birthday” and fell bored - there’s always something new going on… It’s pretty difficult to top an album like “Hello Mom” but Modeselektor have just managed that!

super-flu
traumschallplatten

Following their debut 12″ “She” on Traum and their superb remix of Dominik Eulberg´s
“Grünschenkel” Super Flu reveal with “Momratzn” that they definitely have their own style.
Felix Thielemann und Mathias Schwarz aka Super Flu from Halle belong to the fine
selection of artist in the east part of Germany who have achieved international success
without claiming the Berlin bonus.
Their a-side track “Momratzn” is in a way a living creature expanding and contracting,
constantly changing it’s shape and substance. To put it in different words: the track is a
musical journey into melodies, delays and let´s say the secret post trance society.
A fairytale with a bit of romance, fictitious but also well aware of the club world out there…
always saying hello and then disappearing in to the artistic and musical neighbourhood.
The flipside track “Sambalg” is rhythmical reduced version of what Super Flu offer on
the a-side. The track is a bass heavy DJ tool with clonks, delays and jacking crazy rhythms
that don´t stop! Time seems to stand still when jack goes to work. Peeking through holes of
wisdom… what we see is a jerking and whirling statue.

After releasing the two EP´s “Bar 123″ and “Simple” on Trapez and later several on
Crosstown Rebels, 3 Channels return with two peak time tracks on Trapez.
“It’s gettin’ kinda hectic” is a polyrhythmic heavy monster, with lots of clonks and drugged out vocals, all making it a prime time rocker for bigger dance floors.
The track has a fantastic build up, slowly but steadily marching towards the climax.
The flipside track “Incoming” is much lighter, but has more drive to it. The track
incorporates a strong Latin feel which sticks to it until the end.
It will definitely appeal to the more funk attracted crowd.

ellen allien

Besides a new and great DJ mix on CD (Fabric34 / Mai 2007) and playing most of the big summer festivals, Ellen Allien even found the time to produce a new track.

“Go” is an allusion to her very first track “Just let the groove go” (1994) and uses the vocals as the basis for a modern, rather dark but ethereal new version. The result is once more an Allien-like Dance/Tech track.

Marcel Dettmann, a fan of “Just let the groove go”, still plays this track in his sets and immediately agreed on distributing his own version of that track.
Both versions use the same vocal sample as a center point but combine it with different beats -
Ellen Allien goes for rather hypnotic, airy and dry beats, Marcel Dettmann for Dub Tech à la Hardwax. This way each track has its own character and colour.
But stilll - both versions will get the hearts of the dancers and their hands flying!

Live Lucio Aquilina @ MOSQUITO 09.04.2007 Check it here

Lucio Aquilina´s new track “Feeling Plastik” is just stripped down so cruel… it makes your ears bleed. It is a track you can feel but hardly describe. There is nothing to lay your hands on, but the euphoria which breaks through like a bush fire. At the end there is nothing left but a levelled piece of earth.
In contrast “Squared Circle” on the flip side is a funky light hearted groove machine, the pressure has gone and happiness rules. The track jamms away in a very cool style and percussive way.

dave turov
CSM

CSM returns after the summer break with Dave Turovs Deductive EP, his solo debut for the imprint he has managed for owner John Selway since 2005. CSM015 follows successful remixes for CSM, Clink, and original music for Detroits Moodgadet . Since relocating from New York to Berlin in 2003, Dave has found success as a DJ, M event producer in clubs like Watergate and WMF, label manager, artist and producer.
CSM015 is a fresh and definitive interpretation of the labels sound and direction. Dave clearly shows his musical background as a drummer with spontaneously sharp rhythmic syncopations and keen awareness of timing and feel, while his DJ background provides the influence to keep the arrangement and sounds tailored for a throbbing dance floor.
The two tracks presented by Turov show the light and the dark side of CSM. Inference is a deep and warm musical fusion of house and techno, simultaneously classic and hypermodern. Conclusion is driving, hypnotic techno which is positively destined for peak time action. The balance of styles on this release should allow it to easily find a place in any forward thinking DJs selection.

Dejan Galic lives in the Netherlands and has recorded his debut 12″ on the legendary R&S label from Belgium some months ago. Dejan´s first release on Traum celebrates the comeback of Belgian techno! “Abbey Draught” has the motion of a revolving massive black planet. A club track for the late hours with an enormous feeling for dynamics and last but not least with an huge production. “Coup de Coeur”, a steam hammer of a techno track. It reduces the melodic part to a melody played by bells deep inside the core of the tracks parameters. The kick drums hammering away with basslines creating a vacuum of a pressure cooker!
